Frequently asked questions
- What is the difference between RER and DER?
- Resting Energy Requirement (RER) is the basal metabolic calories required to keep organs functioning while resting at room temperature. Daily Energy Requirement (DER) multiplies RER by an activity/life-stage factor to account for exercise, digestion, and thermoregulation.
- Why should pet treats not exceed 10% of daily calories?
- Commercial dog and cat foods are formulated to meet complete AAFCO micronutrient standards. When unbalanced treats exceed 10% of caloric intake, pets risk deficiencies in essential amino acids, calcium, and vitamins.
